Audiology
Have you noticed a change in your hearing or does your child struggle to hear? The ears and brain work together to interpret sound waves, but many factors can impact how well you hear. From blockages or damage in the middle or outer ear to disruptive inner ear conditions, there are many ways hearing can be diminished. At Julie Zweig, MD Integrative Sleep & ENT, our audiology and ENT specialists offer hearing tests, hearing loss treatments, hearing aids and a wide selection of ENT procedures at our facility in Alpharetta, GA.
Hearing Tests for All Ages
We provide comprehensive audiologic testing for our patients of all ages. We start with an otoscopic exam where our ear specialist will look inside your ears to check for any abnormalities. Our audiologist, Debra Brewer, will also perform a series of tests to determine how well you can hear certain pitches and frequencies in different environments. Dr. Brewer uses a variety of tools, including pure-tone testing, speech audiometry and impedance testing to determine the type, nature and severity of any hearing loss present. All of our testing is performed in a sound-treated booth to ensure the accuracy of results, which contribute to our hearing loss treatment recommendations.
Hearing Loss Treatment
Once hearing tests are performed by our audiology department, we can provide advanced treatments for hearing loss. The treatment depends on the type of hearing loss – conductive or sensorineural – and many other factors. Conductive hearing loss includes anything that blocks or diffuses sound, which can be improved with the use of hearing aids to amplify sound. Sensorineural hearing loss involves issues within the inner ear and with the audio nerve, which cannot be treated with hearing aids. Our ENT specialist and audiologist work together to design the most effective treatment plan for each patient’s unique circumstances and ear issues.
Hearing loss is a frustrating condition for individuals of all ages. There have been incredible advances in hearing loss treatments that can greatly improve pitch and sound levels, as well as other factors that impact how well you hear. If you need a hearing test for you or your child in the greater Atlanta area, come see our team at Julie Zweig, MD Integrative Sleep & ENT.
