ENT FAQs
Yes, environmental allergies can cause ear pain. This is because your nose, throat, and sinuses all connect to your ears. When you experience an allergic reaction, inflammation blocks the Eustachian tubes, which can lead to fluids building up in the middle ear. This can give you a temporary earache. When self-administering ear drops, be sure to lay on your back or side with the affected ear up, and lightly pull back the ear as you apply the drops. Stay in this position for 3-5 minutes and allow the drops to run down the entire ear canal. If it feels like there is water trapped in your ears or you are feeling any pain, please contact us. COVID is a respiratory tract infection which can affect your sinuses, nose, and throat. However, there is no information yet on whether COVID causes sinusitis (sinus infections). Ringing in the ears, tinnitus, affects millions of Americans. Sometimes tinnitus is a symptom of hearing loss, but it can also be caused by stress or loud noise exposure. At Julie Zweig, MD, we can help you experience relief and stop the ringing in your ears. Hearing aids are a great solution for those who have hearing loss. Typically, hearing aids last anywhere from 3-7 years. It is important to properly care for your hearing aids by bringing them in regularly for routine cleanings and checkups. At Julie Zweig, MD, we offer ear tube surgery, where a small hole is made in the eardrums and a tube is inserted to help drain fluid that builds up behind the eardrum. Most ear tubes fall out within 4-18 months and the holes heal shut on their own.
